Session 1: What makes a writer? The skills and abilities needed to become a writer and how we can teach children to progress through the developmental stages of learning to write.

Session 2: Positive contexts for writing. The EYFS and National Curriculum (2014) with regard to writing, how we can capture children’s imaginations and engage all children in writing and create a supportive environment for writing.

Session 3: The issue of gender. Research and strategies which address the issue of boys, girls and writing.

Session 4: What is my role in all this? The essential role of the teacher in providing positive relationships, opportunities for observation, effective planning and making assessments. We also deal with using assessment effectively in tracking progress.

This training course for all EYFS practitioners focuses developing the speaking skills of early years children and getting them talking! The day will provide you with a range of practical strategies to motivate children to talk and to monitor progress through effective assessment. This day of CPD can also be run in your school as INSET.
