Your first year in a new Free School or Academy: A practical introduction for Principals and Governors – Call 01283 568440 to run this INSET in your School
Session 1 – Where next? What remains to be done? An in depth look at what challenges lie ahead as the school grows and how to build up year-on-year. This session will focus on looking at the tasks that lie ahead with practical tips and a discussion of the potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. We shall look at the key issues of staffing, finance, monitoring service contracts and monitoring teaching and learning, as well as the conflict between growing the school and the day to day running of it. We shall end with a close look at the Ofsted Inspection Framework and how you can become ‘Ofsted Ready’.
Session 2 – How do we ensure the school remains stable? Governance. How Governors can secure the future of the School.This session will focus on looking at how Governors can make a difference. We shall look at what good Governance looks like and how Governors move from Founders to members of the Board. We shall also be considering the Head’s role in working with Governors to secure the school’s future.
Session 3 – How do we ensure the school is fully subscribed? Marketing. A practical session. The importance of Marketing a school in its infancy cannot be underestimated. This session will focus on the practicalities of marketing: the importance of the website and communication, open days, meetings and other opportunities.
Session 4 – In the Public Gaze. How to handle the Media and turn it to your advantage. A theoretical and practical session.This session will focus on how to manage the Media and use it as a marketing advantage at every opportunity. We shall look at the various scenarios: TV, Radio and printed Media as well as the differences between live and recorded broadcasts.
The CPD training course is ideally suited for all those newly appointed as Principal of a new Free School or Academy along with the Chair of the Founders Group. The day will include an amusing but practical insight into how to move a new school forward, based on personal experience. The sessions will ensure that delegates are aware of the challenges that lie ahead and how pitfalls might be avoided. Tailor made follow up sessions will be available on an individual basis if required to explore more fully some of the areas covered.
